Knowing yourself is important, if not crucial to your success in life. It is probably the most challenging task we all have to undertake.
When you know who you are and clearly understand what you want, you have a much better chance of discovering how to achieve success, personal fulfillment and happiness in your life.
Knowing your true and inner self is paramount to defining and working toward reaching your goals.
It helps guide you on the path to success. It provides you a calmness that improves your attitudes, relationships and connections with others.
Consequently, knowing yourself empowers and enables you to create different choices.
Instead of doing what everyone else wants you to do, it will free you to make your own choices and stand by them.
This doesn’t mean you’ll ignore or be disrespectful toward the opinions of others… no!
It does mean however, you’ll be able to adopt an attitude that is respectful to the opinions of others while remaining true to your own beliefs and convictions.
That said, you do want to remain open to the opinions of others. Being willing to change and adopt when presented with more reliable facts is not a sign of weakness but rather a sign of strength.
Getting to know ourselves is a lifelong journey for most of us. Some are blessed in that they know early on who they are and what they’re all about.
The basic premise behind knowing yourself is that you are responsible for everything in your life, everything good and everything bad that happens. We are all responsible for our own life… and therefore we are in control of our own life.
Is that a hard pill to swallow for you as it is for so many?
I know, this is a complex topic often clouded by mistaken beliefs we hold about ourselves and the nature of life in general.
Too many folks feel they need to justify their actions and rationalize their behaviors. They end up blaming others for their choices.
Rather than stepping up to the plate and taking responsibility for what they have done they project their problems onto others.
And as long as they project their problems onto others, they rob themselves of the opportunity to grow and develop as a human.
Learn to accept yourself as you are. Nobody is perfect and all of us have faults and flaws.
There are probably things you don’t like about yourself. You might be tempted to ignore, hide or deny them.
Don’t do that… be strong and accept those negative things because it is only by accepting your faults that you can truly change and turn things around.
The first step to take toward knowing yourself is to take full responsibility for everything in your life.
This is not always easy, no doubt about it. But nonetheless, it is the first step!
Taking full responsibility for everything in your life takes you one step closer to developing your true potential. It also brings you one step closer to living your life feeling happy and fulfilled.
